Nataliia Ivaniv | Artist at Mondoir
Nationality: Ukrainian
Discipline: painting
Based in: Ivano-Frankivsk, UA
Biography
Nataliia Ivaniv is a contemporary abstract artist based in Ukraine. Her practice centers on the physical and emotional qualities of color, texture, and spatial balance. Using heavy impasto, layered surfaces, and controlled compositions, she creates paintings that emphasize depth, rhythm, and the interaction between texture and light. Her work explores how limited color relationships can produce complex emotional atmospheres, focusing on sensory perception, tension, and the psychological impact of abstraction
Artist Statement
"My work explores the fragile boundary between digital spatiality and raw tactile materiality. Having transitioned from years in UI/UX design back to physical easel painting, I treat the canvas as a physical user interface where texture, color, and light interact to respond to themes of urban tension, tech-structures, and memory
My process relies heavily on the physical properties of acrylic and mixed media through heavy impasto, scraping, and dense multi-layering. The central element of my practice is materiality: I employ a structured yet intuitive approach where deep color relationships and scratched surfaces mimic digital noise, screen glitches, and the rigid geometry of contemporary city architectures. Through this heavy, tactile language, I translate fleeting digital experiences into permanent, physical painterly reliefs. For me, the physical surface becomes a living palimpsest—capturing the emotional atmosphere, friction, and hidden psychology of our highly technological, fast-paced world."
