Nationality: Portuguese
Discipline: mixed-media
Biography
Visual artist Diogo Landô, based and working in Portugal, studied art and communication, as well as design and communication, at the Escola Superior Artística de Porto (ESAP). Before dedicating himself exclusively to his vocation as an artist, he worked as a designer, art director, and photographer in several creative projects, which, in addition to his studies, helped shape the direction of his artistic activity. As a visual artist, Landô is constantly drawn to the limitless possibilities of the digital medium. His creative journey revolves around the creation of unique works, where he seamlessly blends collage techniques, photo manipulation, and painting. His mission is to combine these elements with cutting-edge production processes to deliver high-quality works that bridge the gap between classical and contemporary art. Landô’s artistic journey is a continuous quest to unearth beauty and provoke reflection. He believes that beauty lies not only in aesthetic perfection but also in the raw, unfiltered emotions that art can evoke. By juxtaposing elements from different eras and drawing from a rich palette of emotions, Landô seeks to challenge conventional perspectives and inspire viewers to contemplate the complex tapestry of human existence.Artist Statement
My work begins with emotion! An impulse born from a continuous need to create. It is not about representing the world as it is, but responding to it intuitively, allowing feeling, instinct, and contradiction to guide the process. Each piece develops through layers of meaning, where irony and ambiguity invite the viewer to look beyond the obvious. I draw from both the past and the present, combining classical references with elements of contemporary culture. Influenced by contemporary art, street art, and pop aesthetics, my work adopts a modern, urban visual language while remaining deeply connected to memory and history. These temporal overlaps create images that feel familiar yet unstable, refined yet raw. Rather than offering a single, fixed reading, my works encourage a shift in perspective. Subtle visual displacements, through layering, fragmentation, or digital intervention, allow different interpretations to emerge depending on how the viewer approaches the image. Meaning is not imposed; it unfolds through observation, distance, and return. This tension between opposing forces — elegance and disruption, nostalgia and provocation, control and spontaneity, is central to my practice. It reflects a world where identities, images, and truths are constantly in flux. My interest lies in that fragile balance, where beauty exists not in resolution, but in uncertainty. I see art as a space for reflection rather than conclusion. My works do not seek to answer questions, but to open them, holding room for contradiction, emotional resonance, and the quiet complexity of unresolved thoughts. It is within this in-between space that the work continues to evolve, shaped as much by the viewer’s gaze as by my own.Exhibitions
