Biography

I am Benny Hosea, a Nigerian visual artist and photographer exploring how memory, identity, and culture shape the African experience. Through Afrography—a movement I founded—I create images that preserve heritage and honour everyday stories. My work blends portraiture, symbolism, and research to reimagine Africa’s past, present, and future.

Artist Statement

My work explores memory, identity, and culture through Afrography, a philosophy I created to document African stories with depth and intention. I use photography to preserve heritage, highlight everyday beauty, and reimagine how African narratives are seen. My practice blends portraiture, symbolism, and research to honor the past and shape the future.

Exhibitions

GENE – THE CREATION (Solo Exhibition) — 2025 Hosted at The Art Hotel, this two-day solo exhibition (29–30 August 2025) featured my original body of work exploring creation, identity, and the origins of the self within the philosophy of Afrography. I served as the artist and creator of the full exhibition experience.

Education

Felix Crown Mentorship & Vocational Program — Completed an intensive creative training focused on visual storytelling, collaborative image-making, and professional practice. Developed peer-to-peer connections, refined technical skills, and later mentored emerging creatives within the program. Self-directed Photography & Visual Arts Training — Ongoing studies in photography, lighting, composition, cultural research, and narrative development, forming the foundation of Afrography and my artistic practice. Workshops & Creative Development Programs — Participated in multiple art, photography, and creative entrepreneurship workshops that expanded my skills in editing, conceptual development, and visual documentation.
