Becoming is not a path but a pattern, woven from both ache and bloom, a quiet unfolding, never whole, yet always reaching toward wholeness.
Why collect this work?
A dark figure reaches across a blue, densely patterned field while vivid red cloth coils around the torso, making bodily extension appear both forceful and constrained.
- Benjamin states that his photographic practice examines memory, identity, and African experience through portraiture and symbolism. That intention supports, but does not settle, an interpretation of this figure as an image of identity under formation.
- The outstretched arm pulls left as the legs extend right, splitting the pose across opposing directions. Pale, partially obscured figures in the surrounding field complicate the central body’s apparent isolation.
