Chasing The Sun was born from my desire to hold onto hope, even when the way forward feels uncertain. I imagined a landscape where sunflowers lean toward the light while hot-air balloons drift into an open sky, each one carrying a quiet wish beyond the familiar. I built the painting through layers of acrylic, allowing coral, orange, pink, and turquoise to collide with deep blue passages. The energetic drips and loose marks reflect life in motion, while the dotted pathways suggest constellations, changing weather, and the invisible routes we follow toward our dreams. Below, the sunflowers feel rooted and weathered, their dark centers grounding the composition as their golden petals continue to reach outward. Above them, the balloons rise gently, offering a sense of release and possibility. In creating this piece, I wanted to honor the courage it takes to keep searching for warmth. I hope it brings a feeling of joyful momentum to its surroundings and reminds the viewer that hope is not passive. It is something we choose to pursue, again and again, always chasing the sun.
Why collect this work?
A band of patterned blue forms divides rooted sunflowers from drifting balloons, turning upward movement into a tension between weight and aspiration.
- Sabry’s profile identifies the sunflower as a recurring emblem of resilience and renewal. Here, that artist-reported association is complicated by bent stems, dark centres, and partially obscured blooms rather than presented as simple optimism.
- In the photograph, dense flowers occupy the lower left while small balloons disperse across the upper field. White dots and yellow linear marks cross the blue band between them, making the central passage read variously as terrain, weather, or an imagined route.
- Catalogue metadata records acrylic on canvas. The medium permits opaque blocks, translucent-looking overlaps, fine dots, and descending drips to coexist, producing a surface where depicted growth and the downward pull of liquid marks work against each other.
- The work merits encounter as a contemporary landscape that tests hope against visual resistance: ascent is pictured, but every balloon remains small and distant, while the largest forms stay grounded below.
