This mixed-media work reflects the marine world as a space of beauty and vulnerability. Using cyanotype, bleach, and metallic colours, the surface shifts between presence and erosion, echoing the fragility of aquatic ecosystems. Why collect this work?
A concentrated blue field is ringed, crossed and partly breached by repeated marks. Rather than depicting marine life directly, the work frames ecological vulnerability as a tension between containment and permeability.
- Shalu describes mark-making as a means of exploring nature and human presence, with chance held against control. Here, orderly rings and dashes meet irregular washes and wandering paths, visibly sustaining that contrast.
