This collection is the result of my exploration and reflection on the independent potential of the language of painting a place where painting is released from the task of representing the external world and enters an autonomous realm. In these artworks, non-representational abstraction is not the elimination of reality but the opening of new horizon for emotion and thought. For me, painting is a field of freedom; freedom from imagery, from fixed narratives, and from everything that confines the language of painting to representation. This freedom makes possible the emergence of structure that can only exist within painting itself independent of any external reference. Each artwork evolves through the act of painting, and meaning emerges through the encounter between the artwork and the viewer. "After Representation" is an invitation to experience painting directly; a space in which color, line, texture, rhythm, and movement are used not to describe objects but to create a world beyond.
Why collect this work?
A broad dark arc gives the painting a provisional structure, while crossing strokes and pale gaps keep that structure from resolving into a figure or scene.
- In her statement, Sama Tari frames the 2026 series as an exploration of painting freed from external reference. The work supports this aim without eliminating visual associations altogether.
- In the photograph, diagonal blue, dark, grey, and white passages gather around a curve descending from the upper centre. Shifts between crowded marks and open areas create alternating pressure and release.
- The documented acrylic on paper allows opaque strokes, overlaps, and sharp interruptions to coexist on a small sheet. Their visible layering records successive decisions, though the photograph cannot confirm surface texture or exact colour.
- At 29 by 42 cm, the work compresses expansive gestures into an intimate format. Its interest lies in the tension between autonomous marks and fleeting suggestions of weather, water, or landscape.
