This collection is the result of my exploration and reflection on the independent potential of the language of painting a place where painting is released from the task of representing the external world and enters an autonomous realm. In these artworks, non-representational abstraction is not the elimination of reality but the opening of new horizon for emotion and thought. For me, painting is a field of freedom; freedom from imagery, from fixed narratives, and from everything that confines the language of painting to representation. This freedom makes possible the emergence of structure that can only exist within painting itself independent of any external reference. Each artwork evolves through the act of painting, and meaning emerges through the encounter between the artwork and the viewer. "After Representation" is an invitation to experience painting directly; a space in which color, line, texture, rhythm, and movement are used not to describe objects but to create a world beyond.
Why collect this work?
Long pale strokes cut across denser vertical colour, making interruption and revision, rather than a depicted subject, the painting’s central event.
- The artist profile records Tari’s academic research into abstraction, minimalism, and the status of painting. Her stated aim to free this series from external reference clarifies the work’s resistance to a settled image.
- In the photograph, blue and green passages gather along the edges, while ochre, red, and pale blue occupy the centre. Crossing white diagonals alternately divide these zones and bind them into a compressed field.
- The documented acrylic on paper permits opaque marks to cover earlier passages while leaving partial colours visible. Across the 29 by 42 centimetre sheet, these overlaps create spatial depth without conventional perspective.
- Encountering this work permits close comparison between abstraction and landscape-like suggestion. Possible readings of water, vegetation, or terrain repeatedly surface, then lose coherence beneath the next crossing stroke.
