In this painting, I present David Bowie looks at you with a calm, almost timeless gaze. His face is composed of fragmented, geometric planes, as if composed of many identities simultaneously. The iconic lightning bolt across his face refers to his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, and symbolizes the fractures between who he was, who he became, and who he dared to be. Colorful butterflies float around his head: light, fragile, and constantly in motion. They represent metamorphosis, freedom, and the letting go of old forms. The background is austere and dark, making Bowie himself and the butterflies seem to illuminate. It is as if he steps out of the shadows, reborn again and again. The painting exudes both softness and strength: a man who embraced his vulnerability and used it as a source of creativity. His life was a series of artistic rebirths. Each time the world thought it understood him, he transformed: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke, and later the restrained, reflective Bowie of his final years. Like the butterflies in the painting, Bowie refused to sit still. He broke down the boundaries between music styles, gender expression, fashion, and art. He gave voice to outsiders and showed that identity isn't a given, but a journey. This work isn't a traditional portrait, but a visual biography. It tells the story of a man who repeatedly reinvented himself, giving millions the courage to do the same. David Bowie lives on in this painting as a symbol of change, imagination, and freedom—surrounded by butterflies, always on the move toward a new form. The blue frame is part of the Epoxy Liquid Gloss and is not a physical wooden frame.
