In this painting I present a moving scene in street-art style: an elderly couple walking hand in hand along a weathered wall. The man, with a walking stick, and the woman are rendered in black-and-white stencil form, which gives them a timeless, almost nostalgic character. Their faces radiate calm and connection. The strong accent of colour lies in the bright pink candyfloss the woman holds up. The candyfloss looks light and playful and contrasts sharply with the sober figures and the rough, peeling wall. Beside her several red hearts float, as though love and joy were literally hanging in the air. These symbols give the work a warm, optimistic charge. The background — with its cracks, brickwork and paved footway — emphasises the street character and the passing of time. It is precisely in these raw surroundings that a poetic image arises of a love that endures, even in old age. The painting balances between melancholy and hope and celebrates the power of simple human connection. The blue border forms part of the Epoxy Liquid Gloss and is not a physical wooden frame.
