In this painting I present a street-art-like scene on a weathered stone wall. In black and white, an elderly couple is depicted walking hand in hand. Their clothing and bearing recall another time: restrained, simple and full of familiarity. The man wears a cap and holds a striking object in his free hand: a bright pink candyfloss. The candyfloss forms the powerful accent of colour in the work. Set against the sober monochrome couple and the rough, cracked wall, this pink element immediately catches the eye. It works almost surreally and symbolically: a moment of playfulness, youth or love that endures despite age and transience. The figures walking hand in hand radiate intimacy and connection, while the candyfloss gives the work a poetic, almost hopeful layer. The painting feels like a tribute to a love that holds firm, with a subtle nod to pleasure and appetite for life, even at the end of the road.
