In this painting I present a loving pair of teenagers approaching one another carefully in an urban night-time setting. Against a rough wall, lit by warm street light, they stand facing each other. The boy offers the girl a large, bright pink candyfloss, a playful and tender gesture that stands as a symbol of young love, innocence and daring. Their bodies are relaxed, almost dancing in their posture. They smile at one another, as though the world around them briefly fell still. The soft hearts floating around them reinforce the atmosphere of being in love and of first emotions. The wet street reflects their silhouettes, giving the moment a dreamlike, almost cinematic quality. The contrast between the monochrome figures and the vivid pink of the candyfloss emphasises how love brings colour into a sometimes raw, grey world. This painting radiates youthful optimism: a tribute to first love, in which everything feels light, sweet and full of promise.
