The Faceless (✂ December 2023 | Slide 2) is probably the blueprint for my collage practice so far. I made it three years ago, back when I first started digging deeper into collage art. I made it alone at the Secarik Kliping workshop, armed with nothing but my gut feeling, no fear of getting things wrong, zero knowledge of theory, a pack of cigarettes, a glass of black coffee, and my go-to playlist. And somehow, The Faceless came out of it. Because of my own stupidity and carelessness when it came to archiving my work back then, The Faceless got damaged. That became a lesson for me: this art is built from fragile materials, like old magazines, newspapers, and all that stuff. So naturally, taking care of the work takes just as much patience and attention. I’m actually glad I went through that. Since then, I’ve become much more careful with every collage I make, from archiving and storing them to framing them for exhibitions and sales. ✂ Updated September 2026 The work diligently crafted using a combination of acrylic paint, oil pastel, HVS paper, and magazine cutouts by Metalhead Melankolis. Framed in A4 size.
Why collect this work?
A sharply bounded human profile holds a crowded montage of bodily and cultural fragments, making the silhouette more legible than the person it supposedly identifies.
- The artist profile describes Metalhead Melankolis as both poet and collagist, concerned with identity and contemporary disorder. In this work, the clipped images operate like disjointed lines whose meanings depend on proximity rather than narrative sequence.
- The photograph shows hands, eyes, mouths, animals, buildings and decorative motifs packed into the head and torso. Variations in scale and orientation frustrate anatomical coherence, while projecting limbs complicate the figure’s otherwise firm boundary.
- Catalogue metadata lists magazine cutouts, HVS paper, acrylic paint and oil pastel. Reproduced photographs supply recognisable details, while layering and added colour make rupture, concealment and unlikely adjacency central to the composition.
- At the documented 13.5 by 25 centimetres, the montage compresses a large visual inventory into an intimate format. Its specific curatorial value lies in testing portraiture without likeness: identity emerges through selection, excess and exclusion.
