In this work, I have infused bold geometric shapes and vibrant red tones with unbridled energy and rhythm. The primal spirit of music comes alive through abstract forms, capturing the essence of a powerful performance. The painting vibrates with passion and movement, ready to electrify any space with its dynamic intensity and emotional depth. It is a celebration of self-expression and the raw power of sound. Crisp lines and contrasting colors evoke a sense of sound, movement, and energy. Part of the "Musicians" series.
Why collect this work?
Angular overlaps fuse musician and shamisen into one compressed structure, making performance legible less as a scene than as a collision of directional forces.
- Imar describes her practice as turning familiar figures into geometric visual systems. Here, that approach clarifies how the player remains recognizable while head, torso, arms, and instrument are reorganized as interlocking planes.
- In the photograph, the instrument cuts diagonally across a largely vertical figure. Apparent red-orange masses establish the body, while dark teal and charcoal sections repeatedly interrupt its outline; jagged background contours extend that syncopation beyond the performer.
- The documented acrylic-on-canvas medium makes sharply bounded, opaque colour areas possible. Scuffed-looking pale marks visible in the photograph break their solidity, although the image alone cannot establish the painting’s actual surface texture.
- Dated 2025 and identified by the artist as part of the Musicians series, this painting is a useful encounter with how a specific instrument can be translated into near-abstraction without losing the bodily mechanics of playing.
