“1+1=3” was born from my fascination with the concept of natural mathematics, where the sum is greater than its parts. This work depicts the profound connection between parent and child, a relationship that transcends simple arithmetic. The red chrome color envelops the form with warmth and passion, capturing the pulsating energy of life and love. Its flowing, interconnected shapes symbolize unity and the continuous flow of family love. The dynamic posture of the work invites viewers to explore the balance and harmony inherent in these relationships. As the light dances across the reflective surfaces, it mirrors the ever-evolving journey of parenthood and childhood.
Why collect this work?
A large outer loop encloses a smaller, angled form, making the empty interval between them as active as the metal. This third spatial presence gives the title, “1+1=3,” a clear sculptural logic.
- Kuzica describes the work as a parent-child relationship and links it to “natural mathematics,” where a whole exceeds its parts. That intention supports, but does not settle, a reading of the nested forms as familial figures.
- In the photograph, the looping body extends beyond an angled pedestal, with rounded ends pulling in opposite directions. This precarious-looking asymmetry makes connection appear dynamic rather than fixed.
- The documented stainless steel, red chrome paint and black electro-plated elements permit sharp contrasts between reflective curves, dark recesses and the support. Reflections visually break up the solid body, complicating its apparent weight.
