Why collect this work?
Closely packed poppy heads turn a familiar floral subject into a field of competing colour, balancing botanical recognition with an almost continuous surface pattern.
- Anis states that she seeks emotional warmth through colour and expressive form. The high chromatic intensity supports that aim here, while the crowded arrangement introduces pressure and complexity rather than uncomplicated cheerfulness.
- In the photograph, red, orange, yellow, pink and violet blooms press against a blue ground. Cropped flowers extend the garden beyond the square format, and dark centres punctuate the brightness with abrupt focal points.
- The documented oil-on-canvas medium makes dense, opaque colour and layered transitions possible. Directional marks visible in the photograph distinguish petals from the surrounding blue without precise botanical contours, holding description and painterly shorthand together.
- Dated 2024 and measuring 40 by 40 centimetres, the painting provides a compact case study in organizing abundance. Its repeated blooms make it useful for examining where a floral grouping begins to function as an all-over pattern.
