Somewhere in a Dream grew from my desire to create a place where beauty feels unbound, as if flowers, memories, and light are drifting together beyond the rules of waking life. I wanted the painting to carry an uplifting energy, the sensation of moving through a garden remembered imperfectly but felt deeply. I built the work through many layers , allowing forms to appear, dissolve, and return. Soft whites and silvery greys create an atmosphere of openness, while greens rise and curve like living stems. Notes of crimson, rust, violet, and pink emerge as blossoms or fragments of emotion, grounding the airy composition with warmth and tenderness. Loose gestures and visible textures keep the surface in motion, giving the impression that the garden is still unfolding and changing before us. For me, this painting is not about depicting flowers precisely. It is about the light they bring into our inner world. I hope it offers a moment of release, inviting the viewer to wander, breathe, and discover their own quiet place somewhere between memory and dream.
Why collect this work?
A tall green stem divides the pale field while dispersed, partially legible blooms resist settling into a conventional bouquet. The garden appears less depicted than recalled through fragments.
- Sherjan describes her practice as moving between abstraction and floral form. Here, that concern clarifies why petals, stems and surrounding space remain fluid rather than botanically precise.
- In the photograph, dense rust, burgundy and violet forms gather near the left edge and lower centre, countered by broad chalky passages. Cropped stems and scattered marks extend activity beyond any single focal point.
- Catalogued as acrylic on a 115 by 140 cm support, the work uses the medium’s capacity for opaque covering and layered revision. The artist reports allowing forms to appear, dissolve and return, although the image alone cannot verify the physical surface.
- Dated 2026, the painting gives contemporary botanical imagery a specific tension between abundance and erasure. It can anchor an examination of how floral still life shifts from named objects toward uncertain memory.
