Fatima Sherjan Explore Mondoir Studio Nationality: Pakistani Born: 1984 Artistic discipline: painting Based in: Dubai, PK BiographyFatima Sherjan is a Pakistani visual artist based in Dubai, UAE. Her practice moves between abstraction, floral forms, and contemporary Arabic and Islamic calligraphy, exploring the relationship between nature, spirituality, memory, and emotion. Through layered surfaces, expressive mark-making, and a distinctive use of colour, Sherjan creates compositions that balance movement with stillness. Floral imagery often appears as a recurring visual language, while calligraphic elements introduce a contemplative and spiritual dimension to the work. Her practice brings traditional references into a contemporary visual context, creating works that are both intimate and atmospheric. Through colour, texture, and form, Sherjan seeks to evoke a sense of reflection, beauty, and emotional connection. Artist StatementI am deeply drawn to nature, particularly flowers, for the sense of beauty, vitality, and joy they bring into everyday life. To me, these elements are not simply decorative; they hold an emotional presence and offer a sense of hope, softness, and renewal. They bring beauty to the world, something we all need. My work is driven by an intuitive process of layering, responding, and allowing each piece to evolve organically. I am interested in the space between structure and spontaneity, where colour, texture, and gesture begin to carry their own emotional weight\. Rather than illustrating a fixed idea, I allow the work to unfold through the act of making. I am drawn to moments of softness, fragility , and quiet transformation, creating paintings that invite the viewer to pause, feel, and find their own connection within the layers.
