This textured artwork draws inspiration from the ethereal beauty of the northern lights, with their vivid greens, purples, and blues symbolizing fleeting moments of wonder and hope. Through this work, the artist depicts life as an experience of waiting reflecting the artist's raw emotions. The stark, textured elements echo the wintry landscapes where these celestial phenomena occur, setting up the parallels between the transient nature in Mother Earth and our own lives. This piece invites the viewer to contemplate the gravity of cherishing the journey and the experience instead of focusing on the end results.
Why collect this work?
Vivid organizes luminous colour into ribbed, interrupted bands, making the image read less as a seamless spectacle than as light repeatedly gathered, diverted, and cut short.
- Deeride’s profile describes a practice shaped by nature, colour, and fleeting emotion. Here, the stated reference to the northern lights clarifies the palette, while the fractured structure keeps that reference abstract rather than illustrative.
- In the photograph, green, blue, violet, and pink forms rise unevenly across a dark field. Their tightly turning lines suggest currents or contour maps, but abrupt edges and black gaps prevent a single stable landscape from forming.
- The documented combination of textured plaster, acrylic, and coloured foil allows relief, pigment, and reflected light to operate together. Foil may cause the coloured passages to shift with illumination, an effect the photograph can only partly convey.
- Encountering this work foregrounds a productive tension between natural phenomenon and constructed surface: auroral colour appears not as open sky, but as compressed traces whose interruptions make transience materially legible.
