Luminious by Deeride Explore Mondoir Studio Medium: textured plaster with acrylic and colored foil on canvas Dimensions: 70 x 100 cm Year: 2025 Price: $1380.00 USD Status: available Luminous is the second piece in the artist’s ongoing series as a tribute to the Northern Lights. This abstract artwork uses texture and coloured foil to depict the luminous ray of light shining across the sky when this natural phenomenon occurs. The fleeting rays of colour shooting across the dark charcoal grey expanse of sky serve as an apt reminder of glimmers of happiness and hope in one’s life – however fleeting they are still fantastic and to be cherished. Mother Nature never fails to draw parallels with human emotions in her fascinating spectacles. Why collect this work?A jagged, pale band crosses the dark field on a diagonal, but repeated black interruptions prevent it from becoming a continuous glow. Light is pictured here as intermittent and contested rather than serene. Deeride describes nature and emotion as central to her abstract practice. The catalogue identifies the Northern Lights as this work’s subject and fleeting hope as its intended metaphor, though the image itself sustains several readings. In the photograph, magenta and white passages gather into vertically striated areas across charcoal-black space. Their broad diagonal movement suggests expansion, while dark incursions divide the colour into isolated flashes. The documented combination of textured plaster, acrylic and coloured foil can set raised structure, opaque pigment and light-responsive material against one another. Any physical relief or shifting reflection remains uncertain in this single photograph.Dated 2025 and catalogued as the second piece in an ongoing series, the work provides an early point for tracing how one natural phenomenon is translated through repetition, obstruction and partial visibility.
