Biography

BIOGRAPHY Daniel Abera is an Ethiopian contemporary visual artist based in Addis Ababa. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University, graduating in 2025. His practice explores memory, identity, everyday environments, and collective experience through painting and mixed media. Drawing from Ethiopian life, he transforms familiar spaces, objects, and human activity into layered contemporary compositions. His work has been presented in group exhibitions at the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design and Aurora Addis Gallery in Addis Ababa.

Artist Statement

ARTIST STATEMENT My practice explores memory, identity, and collective experience through everyday environments and objects. Working primarily with painting and mixed media, I transform familiar spaces into layered compositions that move between recognizable forms and abstraction. My work is rooted in the visual and social richness of Ethiopian life. In my Market Series, I see the marketplace as more than a place of commerce—it is a living portrait of society, where people, objects, memories, beauty, and identity come together. Through acrylic, marker, and collage, I build fragmented and layered surfaces that capture the energy and complexity of these environments. I use painting not simply to document what I see, but to explore the memories, relationships, and identities that these ordinary spaces hold.
