Madame Claude is a limited edition of 25, measuring 102 × 140 cm. The image is based on an original hand-drawn work created in 2014 using ink, marker and metallic ink. Each 2026 edition is individually hand-retouched by the artist after printing with ink and metallic gold ink, restoring the depth and reflective quality of the original metallic details. As every piece is finished by hand, subtle variations make each work individually finished within the edition. Each work is signed and numbered by the artist. Please allow up to three weeks for the hand-finishing process before dispatch.
Why collect this work?
A rigidly centred portrait is unsettled by a descending spray of flowers, shifting the composition from emblematic control toward decorative excess.
- Frikh states that she examines constructed ideals of femininity through fashion and historical decorative codes. Here, the severe frontal pose makes beauty appear deliberately fashioned rather than natural.
- In the photograph, four black, loop-lined forms surround the long white face. Purple lips provide the only strong facial colour, while yellow-centred blossoms cross the lower edge and disrupt the dominant symmetry.
- Catalogue metadata identifies an archival fine art print, hand-retouched with ink and metallic gold ink. This format combines a consistent graphic structure with small manual variations and potentially reflective details not confirmable from the photograph.
- Within a collection focused on portraiture or fashion imagery, Madame Claude can mark how ornament controls identity: the figure’s authority depends as much on framing, makeup and pattern as on expression.
