Artist Statement

My name is Eva María Horstick_ArtEve and I am a visual artist working primarily with photography and conceptual series that explore the tension between beauty and violence, visibility and silence, strength and vulnerability. My artistic work is deeply shaped by lived experience. I have worked in post-war contexts such as Kosovo and on documentary projects addressing human trafficking, while also engaging with the language of fashion, unretouched portraiture, and staged imagery. This contrast is central to my practice: I am interested in how femininity, cities and identities are aestheticized, controlled, or erased—and how art can reclaim space for complexity, dignity, and resistance. I did some projects against fasht fashion and plastic waste, projects for peace, families in rhe Ruhrearia, travllling to Israel 8 times- also for portraits and interviews with young women in Israel and Palastine. I did not involve any PR in my projects. For me my art is a direct language to speak with people from different countries. Women play u.a. a role in my work, not as symbols or ideals, but as real presences: fragile, powerful, contradictory. In projects such as Daughters of the Earth, I portray models and non-models alike, questioning who is allowed to be seen and how. Questions about the future from young women via short Interviews 2010-2020. My work without humans shift this perspective u.a. to urban nightscapes, where cities lose their identity—mirroring inner landscapes shaped by memory, trauma, and survival. please see also wikipedia and artfacts.net
