Epic Idyll Original Oil on Canvas | 80 × 60 cm | Created in 2023 | One-of-a-Kind Some landscapes are painted to depict nature. Others are created to awaken a longing for a place that exists only in the imagination. "Epic Idyll" is an invitation into a timeless realm where towering waterfalls descend like curtains of light, ancient stone bridges unite distant worlds, and silence speaks more profoundly than words. Suspended between dream and reality, this composition evokes the feeling of discovering a forgotten sanctuary untouched by time. At the heart of the painting, a solitary horse-drawn carriage crosses an old stone bridge—a subtle symbol of humanity's enduring journey through nature, history, and memory. It reminds us that the greatest adventures are often those that lead inward. Built through expressive layers of oil paint and atmospheric glazing, the artwork possesses a remarkable sense of depth and movement. The flowing waterfalls seem almost alive, while the interplay of emerald greens, misty blues, and luminous whites creates an immersive visual experience that changes beautifully with every shift of natural light. Rather than portraying a specific location, "Epic Idyll" captures a universal dream of harmony—a place where nature remains majestic, untouched, and eternal. Its tranquil atmosphere transforms any interior into a sanctuary of elegance, contemplation, and quiet luxury. Every brushstroke is entirely hand-painted, preserving the authenticity, texture, and emotional presence that only an original oil painting can offer. No reproduction can recreate its richness or painterly character. Created for discerning collectors, "Epic Idyll" transcends decorative art. It is a statement piece designed to inspire, captivate, and become a lasting part of an important collection. Its timeless aesthetic allows it to complement both contemporary and classical interiors while maintaining an enduring artistic presence. For collectors, the true significance of an artwork lies in its ability to transport the viewer beyond the ordinary. "Epic Idyll" achieves exactly that—a journey into serenity, wonder, and the limitless beauty of imagination. Why collect this work?
A minute horse-drawn carriage crossing the central bridge turns an immense invented gorge into a study of scale, making human passage appear both purposeful and precarious.
- Meštrović describes his practice as joining realistic elements with imagined environments. Here, the legible bridge and carriage anchor a landscape whose stacked waterfalls exceed plausible geography.
- In the photograph, pale vertical cascades occupy most of the composition, while dark evergreens and rock masses frame a narrow central opening. The arched bridge interrupts this downward movement, briefly converting falling water into a scene of horizontal transit.
- The documented oil-on-canvas medium permits both dense dark passages and softly graded pale areas. In this image, those contrasts separate solid rock from mist and water, although the photograph cannot establish the painting’s exact colour or surface texture.
- Dated 2023, the painting can be encountered alongside traditions of imaginary and Romantic landscape, particularly to consider how familiar motifs of the sublime are compressed into a contemporary fantasy scene.
