Part of my series "Front Raw Silence" exploring women who observe, choose, lead, and define their own visibility. Drawing influence from fashion imagery and cinematic framing, this collection examines the tension between visibility and concealment, portraying women who are powerful not through volume, but through presence. The practice focuses on minimal yet striking palettes, where color becomes structure and gaze becomes statement.
Why collect this work?
A single sweeping brim turns concealment into the painting’s main compositional force. It withholds the figure’s eyes while the mouth, jewellery, and angular hand carry expression through colour, silhouette, and pose.
- The artist’s profile links her practice to fashion imagery and women’s control over their visibility. That stated concern is materially focused here through styling and partial facial access, rather than illustrated as a complete narrative.
- In the photograph, the hat extends beyond both sides of the head and cuts sharply across the pale face. Small red passages at the lips, hatband, and earrings connect figure and ground across the dominant black forms.
- The catalogue records acrylic on canvas. Acrylic can sustain opaque coverage and clear boundaries, making possible the broad interlocking shapes and limited palette visible here; exact colour and surface character cannot be confirmed from the photograph.
- Dated 2026 and measuring 60 by 90 cm, Front Row Silence can be encountered as a portrait that relocates identity from likeness to chosen signs: hat, jewellery, mouth, and gesture.
