Threads of Time by Sahel Khalilnejad Explore Mondoir Studio Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 100 x 150 cm Year: 2026 Price: $2200.00 USD Status: available Heritage Geometry explores the meeting point between traditional Persian carpet motifs and contemporary geometric language. Familiar patterns associated with the visual vocabulary of Persian carpets are reimagined within a structured geometric composition, creating a dialogue between heritage and modernity. The work intentionally moves between the feeling of an old textile and the clarity of contemporary abstraction, allowing traditional motifs to be experienced through a new visual framework. Subtle touches of gold are incorporated into selected areas of the surface, adding restrained moments of light and depth without overpowering the composition. Why collect this work?Concentric borders contain a dense central interlace, turning the carpet-like field into a study of how ornament can organize attention rather than merely decorate a surface. Khalilnejad describes her practice as reinterpreting Persian carpet motifs to carry cultural heritage into contemporary painting. Here, that intention is supported by the combination of floral borders, bilateral symmetry and geometric abstraction. In the photograph, repeated rectangular bands slow movement toward a small rosette, while broad looping forms cross the central axis and resist an immediate reading of figure and ground. Order is visible, but complexity remains unresolved.Catalogued as oil on canvas, 100 by 150 cm, the work translates a textile-associated structure into a painted image. Oil may enable the layered tonal shifts visible across the outer border, contrasting with the firmer outlines within. This painting provides a focused case study in how the border, medallion and interlace of carpet design can be separated from weaving and reconsidered as spatial devices within a contemporary composition.
