Precious Gbenga Explore Mondoir Studio Nationality: Nigerian Born: 2005 Artistic discipline: painting Based in: Ondo City, NG BiographyPrecious Gbenga (b. 2005, Kwara State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist and explorer based in Ondo State. He discovered his passion for art at a young age, using it as a means of expression and storytelling, and is currently pursuing a degree in Fine and Applied Arts at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo City, Nigeria. His practice is deeply rooted in personal experience, particularly his upbringing in a separated family. This background shapes the central themes of his work, which explore unity, separation, resilience, identity, grace, and shared humanity. Working across mediums, Precious uses oil and acrylic, while continuously exploring different materials, techniques, and forms to translate personal experiences, emotions, and stories into visual narratives. His exploration also extends to ofi, a traditional Nigerian handwoven textile, which he incorporates as a surface for his artistic expression across different mediums. He is known for his distinctive brushstroke style and evocative compositions. His works have been exhibited both within Nigeria and internationally, including presentations in New York, Broadway, Times Square, and the legendary Montmartre district of Paris, reflecting the growing reach of his artistic voice. Artist StatementARTIST STATEMENT Art has always been my voice, a way to process life, express emotion, and explore the complexities of the human experience. Growing up in a separated family, I have been deeply influenced by the themes of unity, separation, resilience, grace, identity and spiritual redemption. Through my work, I examine these ideas using childhood as a lens to connect past experiences with present realities. As a multidisciplinary artist, I develop a distinct visual language that conveys the emotional nuances of human connection and division. I primarily work with oil on canvas, while also exploring traditional Nigerian textiles, particularly ofi (aso-oke), using acrylic paint directly on the actual handwoven cloth. I embrace the texture, patterns and woven structure of the ofi as part of the artwork, allowing the material itself to contribute to the visual and emotional narrative. My works are personal yet resonate universally, inviting viewers to engage with their own memories and emotions. At the core of my practice is the belief that art has the power to heal and unite. By creating spaces for reflection and emotional engagement, I hope to foster a shared understanding of our collective journey and the grace that sustains it.
