Life tune by Oluwafemi Akanmu Explore Mondoir Studio Medium: Charcoal and acrylic on canvas Dimensions: 32 x 35 in Year: 2023 Price: $2250.00 USD Status: available Hearing the soft tune play You will be rejoiced on a busy day, though you can not see the sound it’s like a mime changing a lonely time to a colorful day. The sound may not make you dance but the effects will be forever in our life. Why collect this work? The compressed meeting of face, violin and bow turns musical performance into an image of physical closeness, while sharp diagonals keep the scene active rather than serene. Akanmu states that his practice centres Black dignity, everyday life and hope. Here, that aim is carried by the musician’s concentrated presence rather than by a generalized emblem of uplift. In the photograph, the closed eyes, tilted head and violin occupy nearly the entire field. A framed record and pale marks on blue convert the surrounding room into a graphic suggestion of sound.Catalogued as charcoal and acrylic on canvas, the medium permits dark tonal modelling beside saturated, opaque colour. The face’s subdued greens and blacks consequently stand apart from the red instrument and bright ground.Dated 2023 and titled Life tune, the work is a useful encounter with how portraiture can represent listening without depicting sound itself: posture, compression and repeated graphic marks carry that task.
