I used this composition to reflect on themes of cultural authenticity, adaptation, and preservation which I am subjecting my audience to seeing the impacts of globalization and colonization in diverse societies while celebrating the richness of cultural diversity and the enduring spirit of tradition in the wedding context. Why collect this work?Rectangular units bind the seated bride to her surroundings, while fine contours preserve the specificity of her face and hands. This tension makes the wedding image legible as both individual portrait and contested cultural structure. Okunade states that his practice focuses on women’s experiences through geometric pattern and layered composition. Here, the bride’s central placement gives that concern a ceremonial setting.In the photograph, a cool-toned figure and pale dress interrupt a warm field of irregular blocks.
