In creating "Two," I wanted to capture the essence of two lovers enveloped in a world that vibrates with emotions and time. The fiery hues of yellow and orange swirl together, evoking the passion and intensity of a shared moment that feels both eternal and fleeting. As I painted, I imagined these lovers dancing amidst the chaos and beauty of their emotions, each brushstroke a heartbeat, each color a whisper of their shared story.
Why collect this work?
“Two” organizes its abstract field as stacked, uneven bands: pale colour descends from above, warm reds flare across the centre, and a dark lower zone resists them. The resulting encounter is less a depiction of lovers than a study in contact, pressure and separation.
- Masri states that she imagined two lovers amid emotions that feel both fleeting and eternal. In the photographed work, that intention is carried by converging colour zones rather than clearly identifiable figures.
- Cream and yellow occupy the upper field, while broken red, orange and green marks concentrate around the middle. White passages cut across the darker teal and black below, making the central boundary appear active and contested.
- The documented acrylic on canvas supports opaque overlays and sharp colour contrast. On this 30 by 40 cm surface, interrupted edges compress several visual events into a relatively small format.
- The work is particularly useful for considering how a title and artist-reported narrative can steer perception without settling the image. Its abstraction preserves tension between romantic interpretation and material evidence.
