In creating "Cage," I wanted to explore the profound beauty and complexity of unconditional love. The cage, with its open door, symbolizes a love that is freeing rather than confining. It represents a sanctuary where love exists without barriers, allowing freedom and growth.
Why collect this work?
Broad horizontal bands nearly absorb a small black cage, yet its open door projects into the pale central field. The painting makes freedom visible as an opening while keeping enclosure visually dominant.
- Masri states that the cage represents unconditional love as sanctuary rather than confinement. That intention clarifies the open door, but the dark, intact bars preserve a productive ambiguity.
- In the photograph, loose teal, ochre, crimson and white passages surround a compact, centrally placed emblem. Its fine black lines and near-symmetry interrupt the broader marks, concentrating attention on the tension between boundary and release.
- The documented acrylic on canvas allows opaque colour to be layered and sharply contrasted. Here, dense bands establish an expansive setting, while the cage appears drawn with greater linear precision. The photograph cannot confirm exact colour or physical texture.
- Catalogued as a 30 by 40 cm painting from 2026, Cage supports close comparison between a familiar symbol and its altered condition. The open door does not cancel the enclosure, making liberation a question rather than a settled message.
