A rabbit is barely discernible in the tangle of dried petals and leaves - a creature seemingly emerging from the very fabric of dream. Its form emerges at the border of recognition: the gaze oscillates between the vegetal and the living, between body and shell. The petals resemble both a shelter and the remnants of a bygone bloom. The painting speaks of the fragility of existence and the moment when imagination begins to construct reality. Here, life almost dissolves into nature, and the viewer becomes a witness to a quiet transition - between wakefulness and sleep. Acrylic, oil pastel on canvas, 50*60 cm (19,7”*23,6'') Signed on the front and back by the artist. Stretched and ready to hang. A certificate of Authenticity signed and dated by the artist will be included in the package.
Why collect this work?
A pale, partly concealed animal form is made contingent on surrounding folds: recognition arrives, recedes, and becomes the painting’s central event.
- Viaznikova describes her practice as pursuing transitional states in which animal, plant, and imagined forms remain unresolved. Here, that intention is supported by the rabbit-like shape sharing its contours with petal-like structures.
- In the photograph, dark linear marks gather broad pink, grey, and white passages into curling forms. The central white area can register as a rabbit’s head, yet its interrupted outline also belongs to the surrounding tangle.
- The documented acrylic and oil pastel on canvas permit two distinct kinds of articulation: broad tonal fields establish mass, while drawn lines probe, repeat, and partially undo their boundaries. The image depends on this friction rather than crisp depiction.
- This painting is a focused study of how little visual information is needed before abstraction becomes a named creature. Encountering it alongside botanical or figurative works could sharpen attention to recognition as an active, revisable process.
