In a slender, almost ghostly forest of elongated trunks, a moth emerges—like a stray spark amidst the cold silence. Its soft glow disrupts the strict verticality of the trees and creates a sense of a fleeting, almost impossible presence. The forest seems like a dream, where forms waver between mist and reality, and the moth a symbol of transience and vulnerability. This is a space on the edge of perception: where vision doubts, and the memory of light becomes the only guide. Acrylic, oil pastel on canvas, 50*60 cm (19,7”*23,6'') Signed on the front and back by the artist. Stretched and ready to hang. A certificate of Authenticity signed and dated by the artist will be included in the package.
Why collect this work?
Repeated vertical trunks compress the forest into a screen, while one slanting, wing-like form breaks that order. The disruption makes uncertain whether a creature is emerging or dissolving.
- Viaznikova describes her practice as focused on transitional states and slowed perception. Here, that intention is supported by a motif whose edges remain difficult to separate from the surrounding haze.
- In the photograph, dark vertical bands occupy most of the canvas above a pale lower field. Left of centre, a brown, triangular form interrupts them, concentrating attention without resolving into a fully defined moth.
- The documented acrylic and oil pastel allow broad veiled passages to coexist with sharper, drawn lines. Their contrast makes recognition depend less on contour than on shifts in density and direction.
- This painting can anchor an encounter with images poised between landscape and apparition. Its particular tension lies in how a small diagonal incident contests the forest’s larger vertical structure.
