My practice explores vulnerability, struggle, and resilience within both personal and collective contexts. Working with thread and acrylic, I use Thread as a metaphor for connecting fragments of memory, identity, and experience. Rooted in African textile traditions and storytelling, my work examines how cultural expectations and societal structures shape emotional realities. Through layered textures and color, I capture moments where strength and fragility coexist. I am particularly interested in the idea of being held by culture, relationships, or circumstance and how this tension influences growth and transformation. By placing personal narratives within a broader cultural framework, my work reflects on identity, memory, and the legacy we carry.Exhibitions
My work has been exhibited in the Life in My City Art Festival (LIMCAF), the Deep in Thought Art Exhibition, the SWANS Female Exhibition, group exhibitions at Tola Wewe Art Gallery, and L’exposition in Paris, France.Education
I hold a degree in Fine and Applied Arts from Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, and have further developed my artistic practice through mentorship with contemporary artist Toheeb Ibrahim.Artworks by Mary Damilola Adesakin
