Biography

Macister Rodríguez (Panama City, 1985) is a contemporary visual artist whose practice is grounded in the exploration of magical realism through painting. His artistic journey began early, in 2000—a path that evolved from a personal interest into rigorous academic training. He is a graduate of the Ganexa University of Art, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, thereby solidifying the technical foundations that underpin his current body of work. Since 2012, Rodríguez has pursued an active artistic practice, primarily using oil paint to capture the interplay between his surroundings and the natural world. His work is characterized by a contemporary visual style in which organic elements are transformed through a modern lens. Through his technique, the artist successfully integrates direct observation of reality with the narrative and symbolic possibilities inherent in magical realism.

Artist Statement

My work proposes a dialogue between pictorial tradition and contemporary sensibility, focusing on nature's capacity to evoke unique atmospheres. This professional approach has established the work as a benchmark in recent Panamanian art, distinguished by a balance between technical precision and conceptual intent.
