A shared ritual passed from woman to woman — unspoken, inherited, and deeply remembered. It lives not in words but in the body: in gesture, movement, presence, and silent understanding. This bond resists language because it belongs to something older than speech, carried across generations through instinct, memory, and care. It is a quiet form of knowledge that endures through time, connecting those who came before with those who are still becoming.
Why collect this work?
A ring of women forms around a small fire, but the dark intervals between their bodies prevent complete visual unity. Repeated gestures make ritual appear coordinated yet inaccessible.
- Poluna describes the body as carrying memory and transformation. Here, echoed poses support that concern, while the idea of knowledge inherited between women remains an artist-reported intention rather than a visible fact.
- Foreground figures turn away or extend beyond the frame, while smaller figures gather behind the flames. This compression places the viewer close to the circle without providing a clear point of entry.
- Catalogued as oil on canvas, the painting sets pale bodies and warm firelight against a nearly continuous dark field. Oil can support the gradual tonal shifts that give the figures volume without firm outlines.
- The documented 40-centimetre square condenses a crowded scene into an intimate format. Encountering it alongside other representations of collective ceremony could sharpen questions about who participates, who observes, and how belonging is pictured.
