Biography

Oluwadamilare Olalemi is a Lagos-based, self-taught digital portrait artist. He began working in realism in 2018 and, over time, realized that likeness alone was not enough. He wanted to go further—to reach what people hold behind the surface, not just the face they present. This shift led him toward a practice that blends precise rendering with abstraction, where portraiture becomes a way to show both what is seen and what lies beneath. His work has been published in SuboArt Magazine (Lisbon, 2024) and has been part of several group exhibitions across Nigeria and the United States.

Artist Statement

I make portraits that reveal what people carry beneath composure. What is presented to the world is often a facade. I use skulls, abstraction, and layered compositions to expose what the surface alone cannot sustain. Many works exist in two states—masked and unmasked—showing both the surface and what lies beneath. What concerns me is what is borne rather than performed. My work makes visible the strain, endurance, and quiet pressure held behind composure.
