"I transform the strength and subtlety of the animal kingdom into a visual luxury, where nature becomes art. The leopard, the protagonist of this collection, embodies that dual nature: the wild and the refined. Since ancient times, its skin was reserved for rituals and high status—in Egypt, it dressed priests as an emblem of the divine, and in West Africa, it became an insignia of kings and warriors. Today, its image continues to resonate as a symbol of exclusivity and power—a luxury that transcends the material and anchors itself in the realm of the symbolic. In every stroke, animal beauty is elevated into an aesthetic experience that invites you to contemplate the untamed as a visual treasure."
Why collect this work?
A pale, shadow-like double interrupts the leopard’s carefully described body, shifting the work from wildlife likeness toward an ambiguity about image, presence and possession.
- Her statement describes recognition and abstraction as central concerns. In this work, the animal remains immediately identifiable, while its simplified double tests how little information recognition requires.
- The photograph shows a rear-facing leopard compressed against the right edge. Its curved tail crosses the pale form below, binding the detailed figure to a shape that resembles, but does not replicate, it.
- The documented dry pastel on black paper makes illumination an applied element. Separate pale marks construct spots, spine and limbs, while the broad silhouette suppresses internal detail.
- The catalogued title, Medium Luxury, places this doubled animal beside ideas of refinement and ownership. The contrast between patterned body and anonymous outline provides a concrete way to examine how animal imagery becomes a luxury sign.
