I created this piece from the feeling of carrying something hidden beneath an outwardly calm surface. Above, the green expanse holds the energy of growth and renewal, yet a narrow red line interrupts that calm like a boundary, a memory, or a wound that has not entirely closed. Below it, the earth becomes dense and uncertain, suggesting the private terrain we rarely reveal. At the center, I formed a descending passage in ochre and gold. For me, it is both a root and a lifeline, reaching into a dark, enclosed space where something essential waits. The rough, layered brushwork reflects the difficulty of moving inward. Browns, grays, and muted tones gather like compacted soil, while the central glow offers a fragile sense of direction. I wanted the composition to hold tension between burial and nourishment, isolation and connection. In creating this work, I was thinking about how healing often begins underground, beyond anyone else’s view. I hope viewers feel invited to pause at this threshold and consider what lies beneath their own visible lives. Even in darkness, there can be a path toward what sustains us.
Why collect this work?
A narrow ochre descent links a broad green upper field to a dark lower enclosure, turning a divided composition into an image of difficult access rather than simple separation.
- The supplied profile describes Irfan Ajvazi primarily as a figurative painter. Here, recognizable landscape cues remain, but their reduction into bands, passages and cavities makes inward movement the central subject.
- In the photograph, a thin red and white boundary cuts almost continuously across the sheet. The central form alone breaches it, directing attention downward toward an enclosed, seed-like mass.
- Acrylic on paper permits opaque revision and rapid, broad marks. Here, overlapping strokes keep the ground visually unsettled while the outlined ochre form gains comparative clarity and directional force.
- The artist describes the work as concerning hidden experience and healing beneath a calm surface. Encountered alongside that intention, its unresolved central passage tests whether connection can emerge without dispelling enclosure.
