Artist StatementMy paintings emerge from the meeting of personal experience, social unease and inward reflection. Living in Kolkata, I am drawn to the tensions of the city: its crowded streets, rituals, vulnerability and unexpected moments of beauty. Memory, grief, rebellion and the fragility of human life recur throughout my work. I move between figuration and abstraction, allowing recognizable bodies and objects to fragment, shift and take on unfamiliar relationships. Colour and composition carry emotional meaning, while familiar arrangements of shapes offer viewers a way into an otherwise ambiguous image. I am interested in how something can feel recognizable without becoming a literal representation. Painting is also a meditative process for me, closely connected to dhyan. The canvas becomes a space where conscious decisions meet subconscious impulses, and where emotional intensity can gradually lead towards stillness. I do not seek to impose a single narrative or explanation. Each viewer brings memories and associations that complete the encounter. I want my paintings to hold that openness, allowing recognition, discomfort and wonder to coexist.
