Biography

Farhat Sayyad is an Indian multidisciplinary artist and educator based in the UAE. With a strong foundation in education and years of experience teaching across international curricula, her artistic practice has evolved at the intersection of pedagogy, observation, and contemporary abstraction. Influenced by the diverse landscapes of the region, Farhat’s work reflects a deep engagement with nature viewed from an aerial or eagle eye perspective. Her formal and continued training includes studies in modern and contemporary art, notably through courses offered by The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), along with learning in art as a therapeutic and reflective practice. Working primarily in mixed media, she incorporates textured surfaces and organic elements to create contemplative abstract landscapes. Farhat has exhibited her work regionally and is a selected artist for the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival 2026. She currently lives and works in the UAE, where her practice continues to explore land, memory, and materiality through a contemporary lens.

Artist Statement

My practice is deeply rooted in nature, approached through aerial and drone like perspectives that reimagine landscapes as abstract terrains. Seen from above, the land reveals subtle rhythms, organic patterns, and shifting movements that transcend literal representation, opening a contemplative space for emotional and sensory engagement. Working in layered mixed media on canvas, I combine acrylic paint, ink, resin, and organic natural elements to construct richly textured surfaces. An earth-toned palette, drawn from desert soils, coastlines, and weathered formations grounds the work in its natural origins. Resin functions as both a binding and preserving medium, encapsulating fragments of time and anchoring each composition within its layered history. The process is intuitive and meditative, allowing each layer to emerge in response to the one beneath it. Through these abstracted landscapes, I invite viewers to slow down and encounter the land from a quieter, elevated perspective, where nature, memory, and material converge in a state of balance and reflection.
