One day, watching my daughter, I caught myself admiring how she fell asleep, having almost finished her lunch. It made me reflect: this must be one of the best moments of her life—a carefree childhood with an entire lifetime still ahead. She will likely not remember this moment, let alone realize the sheer magic of this period in her life. That is why I decided to immortalize this instant for her future, grown-up self. And for everyone else, to serve as a reminder: everything has its beginning.
Why collect this work?
Oversized foliage compresses a sleeping child, table and meal into a shallow enclosure, making an ordinary lapse into sleep feel both protected and briefly held.
- Sahach identifies his daughter’s nearly finished lunch as the subject and describes the painting as a record for her future self. That intention frames the scene as preservation rather than simple childhood nostalgia.
- In the supplied photograph, dark leaves repeatedly crop the square composition. Openings reveal a pink, line-patterned ground, while the round tabletop crosses the child’s body and binds figure, bowl, spoon and chair into overlapping layers.
- The documented acrylic medium may support the painting’s sharply bounded forms and strong tonal separations. Fine dotting visibly modulates the photographed surfaces, tempering the otherwise graphic construction without establishing their physical texture.
- Dated 2026 and measuring 100 by 100 cm, the painting gives substantial scale to a minor family incident. Its curatorial interest lies in how staged simplification, rather than photographic realism, converts private observation into a study of memory’s beginnings.
