Bull by Alina O'Dwyer Explore Mondoir Studio Medium: oil painting Dimensions: 75 x 90 cm Year: 2022 Price: $2300.00 USD Status: available The bull is an astonishing creature that embodies strength and leadership in my eyes. I greatly admire these characteristics. My depiction of the bull is both robust and vibrant, with bold red, orange, and green palette knife strokes lending a festive air to the artwork. Against a silver background, the muscular figure of the bull takes center stage, emphasizing its formidable presence. This piece is an oil painting a canvas. It measures 75 by 90 cm and has been coated with a layer of professional varnish to protect it from sunlight and dust Why collect this work? The bull’s frontal mass is checked by its sideways gaze, making power appear watchful rather than simply aggressive. O’Dwyer describes the animal as an embodiment of strength and leadership. Here, that stated admiration is complicated by the turned head, which gives the figure alertness as well as authority. In the photograph, the bull nearly fills the canvas. Its horns press upward while four unevenly spaced legs anchor a body assembled from deep blues, greens, oranges and reds against a pale field.Catalogue metadata identifies oil on canvas, dated 2022, at 75 by 90 cm. The artist reports using palette-knife strokes; their broad, angular appearance breaks anatomical volume into overlapping planes while preserving a clearly legible silhouette. The painting provides a focused case for considering how contemporary animal portraiture can retain recognizable anatomy while using fractured colour to shift a familiar emblem of force toward vigilance and restraint.
