"Never Duck Family Fortune" is a vibrant celebration of nostalgia and family bonds, inspired by the playful chaos of childhood memories. As I created this piece, I wanted to capture the exuberant energy and joy that these characters evoke. The bold, kaleidoscopic colors and dynamic patterns are a nod to the lively adventures and mischief that were a staple of my own childhood. In the composition, the characters leap out in a joyful embrace, symbolizing the unbreakable ties of family and the shared pursuit of dreams. The swirling background, a riot of shapes and hues, reflects the whirlwind of emotions and stories that surround us. It's a reminder of the colorful tapestry of life, where every moment is filled with possibility. Through this artwork, I hope viewers feel a sense of warmth and connection, sparking their own cherished memories. I want them to leave with a smile, reminded of the simple joys and the enduring power of family and adventure.
Why collect this work?
Two cartoon ducks meet amid a field of clipped graphics, but the embrace is nearly overwhelmed by coins, stripes and explosive shapes, making familial affection inseparable from visual abundance.
- The artist profile situates Agent X’s practice in multimedia collage and the reuse of popular imagery. That framework clarifies the work’s friction between affectionate recognition and the relentless density of mass-media signs.
- In the supplied photograph, sweeping white gloves connect the central figures across the square composition. Black outlines keep them legible while cropped eyes, starbursts and tumbling coins eliminate most open ground; “fortune” can therefore signify both kinship and material excess.
- Catalogued as a 2021 giclée print at 35 by 35 inches, the work uses the medium’s capacity for sharp edges and closely packed areas of contrasting colour. Print reproduction also echoes the circulation of its cartoon source language.
- Encountering this print helps test how inherited entertainment images change when removed from narrative sequence and compressed into collage, where familiarity competes with saturation and possession.
