Abraham Adewole Explore Mondoir Studio Nationality: Nigerian Artistic discipline: painting Based in: OGBOMOSO, NG BiographyI’m Abraham Adewole, a contemporary visual artist. No. 1 Wood Regeneration and Wood Garbage Artist. My work explores the relationship between humans and nature through the use of discarded and reclaimed wood. I studied Art, Design & Printing Technology at The Polytechnic of Ibadan, Nigeria, and have developed my practice through studio training, mentorship, mural projects, and collaborations. Working primarily with discarded wood, I turn garbage into gold and plant trees with it. I transform wood offcuts from sawmills, old furniture, and other sources into portraits and visual narratives. My practice is driven by regeneration and a growing concern about humanity’s disconnection from nature. I believe trees are essential to our existence. We breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide, while trees help provide oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. Through my work, I seek to reconnect people with nature and encourage a greater understanding of our responsibility to protect and regenerate the environment. Regeneration extends beyond the materials I use. I am committed to allocating 20% of the proceeds from each artwork sold towards tree planting and environmental regeneration in local communities. Through this commitment, my work becomes a practical contribution to restoring nature and creating healthier environments. My work and artistic journey have been featured in Bold Journey Magazine, the System Magazine, ThisDay, Independent Newspaper, Arise News, and Channels Television’s ArtHouse. I was the first runner up at ZAFAF 2024, held at MUSON Shell Hall, Lagos, and placed second in Art with Mamador. I was also among the Top 7 contestants in Face of Liberty and participated in the Dangote Salt Art Challenge 3 in 2023. Through my work, I continue to explore how art can inspire a renewed relationship with nature, turning discarded materials into meaningful expressions of regeneration. My guiding principle is simple: Use the tree. Respect the tree. Replace the tree. Artist StatementMy practice explain regeneration, our relationship with nature, and the consequences of becoming disconnected from the environment. I transform discarded wood from sawmills, old furniture, and other sources into portraits and visual narratives. Through these works, I explore the relationship between trees, human life, and the environment, while encouraging people to see wood beyond its material value. My message is regeneration. I believe that when we take from nature, we also have a responsibility to replenish it. Through my art, I want to create awareness, reconnect people with nature, and contribute to the regeneration of trees and communities.
