IMAGHA: Digital Artistry at the Crossroads of Architecture and Introspection
By IMAGHA
He sketches a universe from the palm of his hand, where the freedom of digital art meets the precision of architectural discipline. This is IMAGHA—a Nigerian digital artist whose journey has been anything but conventional. Based in the bustling city of Ibadan, Nigeria, IMAGHA transforms architectural insight into breathtaking digital creations that provoke thought and promote introspection. His work transcends the obvious, inviting his audience to explore the hidden depths of creativity.IMAGHA's story is one of seamless integration. He stands at the intersection of architecture, digital art, and curation, a multidisciplinary creator who has been at the forefront of mobile digital art since 2009. His distinctive approach is informed by an architectural education from the Federal University of Technology in Akure, completed in 2021, which instilled in him a rigorous approach to both research and creation. From a young age, IMAGHA was captivated by the act of creation. Growing up in Nigeria, he recalls a time when he would lose himself in doodles and sketches, transforming the margins of school notebooks into canvases for his imagination. "Creating has always been a part of me," he reflects, a sentiment that has only strengthened over time. His formative years were shaped by a mentor who introduced him to various artistic media, from pencil and paint to the tactile engagement of sculpting with clay.Surprisingly, it was the precision and analytical nature of architecture that codified IMAGHA's artistic identity. "My architectural background brought those concepts where you have to make research, you have to do a deep study before you get into creating," he explains. This methodical approach has become a critical element of his digital practice, influencing not only the way he constructs his pieces but also the themes he explores. The transition to digital artistry was driven by a desire for flexibility and immediacy. "When I'm painting with traditional tools, if I make an error, it's harder to correct," he confides. Digital tools offered an alternative, a "cutting-edge" means of creation where mistakes could be easily rectified, allowing for greater experimentation and iteration.IMAGHA's digital works are characterized by their intricate photo manipulation and digital painting, executed using platforms like Picsart, Adobe Lightroom, and Sketchbook. He describes his artistic process as one that seeks to create and curate experiences that elicit feelings and provoke thoughtful introspection. "I didn't just want to create any kind of artwork," he asserts, "I want to bring in commentary." His pieces are narratives, layered with depth and meaning, inviting viewers to peer beyond the surface.Recent works like "NAiAD" (2023), "Into the Abyss" (2024), "War In Heaven" (2024), and "Morning Star" (2024) showcase his evolution. These creations are not merely visual spectacles; they are stories that engage with universal themes through a lens of exploration and beauty. "The galactic world, or universal world, actually it's a place in heaven," he describes, drawing inspiration from a blend of personal vision and external influences, such as science fiction media.IMAGHA's work has not gone unnoticed. The 2023 exhibitions of "ANDRiOD" at WEPLE NFT Gallery in Seoul and "SONNET" with Makersplace underscore his growing reputation on the international stage. Yet, perhaps his most remarkable achievement is his artwork "INTERSTELLAR," which was officially placed on the moon as an asset via Copernic Space's Moon Mission I in March 2025. Such accolades are testament to his ability to transcend earthly boundaries. However, the creative process is not without its challenges. IMAGHA speaks candidly about the struggle of integrating commentary into his art without creating chaos. "The challenge was how I was gonna bring in commentary into my artwork," he admits. Yet, this very challenge drives him forward, pushing him to refine his craft and explore new dimensions of storytelling.Collaboration has also played a pivotal role in his journey. By working with other artists, IMAGHA has learned to blend different styles and perspectives, enriching his own work. "Me trying to learn from other artists, their creativity," he says, "learning how I can blend mine to theirs without creating chaos." This flexibility and openness to new ideas have become hallmarks of his artistic practice.Looking to the future, IMAGHA is filled with a sense of excitement and anticipation. He sees a bright path ahead, one that is woven with collaboration and continuous learning. "The future is exciting," he concludes, "I'm looking forward to collaborating more and exploring more of my own work." Through his art, IMAGHA not only captures the imagination but also encourages a dialogue between artist and audience, leaving an indelible mark on those who engage with his work.In the end, IMAGHA’s art is a quest—one that beckons viewers to seek the unseen, to uncover stories hidden in digital brushstrokes and architectural lines. It is a journey of introspection and discovery, where the boundaries of possibility are endlessly redefined. Discover more of IMAGHA's work and available pieces on their Studio profile.
