Smiley Days with Ms. Flower to You! by Takashi Murakami Explore Mondoir Collection Medium: Silkscreen on paper Dimensions: 45 x 45 cm Edition production year: 2020 Price on request Status: available Why collect this work?A flower is reduced to a frontal, emblem-like face, where rigid symmetry and exuberant colour make happiness appear less like a passing feeling than a designed sign. Murakami gives the familiar flower motif a character’s eyes and open mouth. This fusion of botanical form and mascot-like expression makes recognition immediate while leaving the smile’s sincerity unresolved. In the photograph, twelve rounded petals radiate around a large white face. Alternating coloured and unfilled petals interrupt the symmetry, while thick black contours hold every shape apart and keep the composition visually taut.Catalogued as a 2020 silkscreen on paper, the medium supports sharply bounded areas of flat colour and consistent outlines. Its graphic clarity suppresses modeled depth, making the image read simultaneously as flower, face and reproducible icon.At 45 by 45 centimetres, this print provides a focused case for considering how contemporary printmaking converts emotional expression into a standardized visual symbol without entirely fixing its meaning.
