Classic cat by Tide Explore Mondoir Collection Medium: Screen print on paper Dimensions: 80 x 65 cm Price on request Status: available Why collect this work?A hard-edged cartoon figure sits within softly graded bedding, making a familiar scene of comfort read as both shelter and enclosure. The supplied artist profile describes the recurring cat as TIDE’s alter ego. In this print, its fixed eyes and compact pose sustain that persona while leaving irritation, watchfulness, and contentment equally possible. The cat sits upright between large pillows and a spotted plush toy. Its dense black silhouette and oversized white paws differ sharply from the pale, rounded bedding, separating the figure even as the bed encloses it.The documented screen print medium permits crisp graphic contours alongside controlled tonal gradients. Here, that contrast distinguishes the cartoon body from its more spatially modelled surroundings without breaking the image’s restricted palette. At 80 by 65 cm, Classic cat enlarges the visual language of cartoons and bedtime objects. Its specific curatorial interest lies in how scale and tonal contrast complicate an apparently gentle image, positioning comfort close to isolation.
