AKSION (REDMAN / YO B-REAL) by Mark Drew Explore Mondoir Collection Medium: Acrylic On Canvas Dimensions: 107 x 107 cm Year: 2020 Price on request Status: available Why collect this work? Two differently rendered cartoon figures turn a familiar scene of approach into a clash between solid black contour and an orange outline that appears partly erased. Drew’s combination of comic-strip imagery and colloquial text is legible here as remix: recognition is used as raw material rather than as narrative continuity. In the photograph, the black figure advances with a clenched smile and extended hand, while the orange figure remains open and incomplete. “TIME 4 SUM AKSION!” adds urgency without clarifying what action follows. The catalogued acrylic on canvas supports broad, flat areas and emphatic drawn contours. At 107 by 107 cm, the square format keeps text and figures compressed within a panel-like field. For a collection examining appropriation or popular language, this painting provides a pointed case: shared cartoon memory is interrupted by altered spelling, graphic mismatch, and an unresolved encounter.
